As read on the disaster focus page, it's clear that volcanoes can cause serious damage (no brainer), but are you aware of just how much damage volcanoes can cause? There is an average of people who die from volcanoes each year is 869; it costs $98,992 per year for damages to be repaired after volcanic eruptions; and hundreds, occasionally thousands of people go homeless from natural disasters yearly. But why is this? What damages do volcanoes do to cause so much strife and destruction in the lives of these people?
Once a volcano erupts lava, the lava can become faster in speed as it travels - often, it can travel as fast as 60 km/hour (that's 40 mph), and when you're driving a car, it sounds like nothing, but you cannot out run it, depending on what type of volcano it is and how the weather is around you. But volcanoes can do much more than give you third degree burns - floods, mud slides, rock falls, earthquakes, and an endless plethora of natural disasters are birthed from volcanoes. But lava alone can bury whole cites and regions in ash, and it can wreck havoc towards anywhere it's headed. You can contribute to the care of victims by donating towards their cause. |
